Description
The metal extractor (mex for easy reference) is the primary means of getting Metal. If you have excess energy, metal extractors placed near energy sources will automatically use it to extract more metal using Overdrive.
Tactics and Strategy[edit]
Build Metal Extractors early and build them often; they are the only reliable and scalable source of Metal in the game. Surrounding them with power generators will increase their yield. They can be most efficiently placed using the Area Mex Command.
Placing a Solar Collector near each Metal Extractor you build is an easy way to start benefiting from Overdrive. Two solar collectors (4 ) near a single metal extractor is enough to boost a 2 Metal extractor to 3 Metal. There are diminishing returns on how well energy can overdrive an extractor, requiring 16 Energy to be built to increase that single metal extractor to 4 .
If you connect multiple extractors and energy structures together, the energy produced in that grid will automatically flow to the extractor that would benefit the most, maximizing metal production.
