How do I configure my ZK to target defences and units first during an attack-move process? It's annoying when my units hit eco structures while being damaged by LLT or stynger

I mean, such a important attack might justify some micro time?

In current zk world u go and write a widget... Devs don't care enough to do it for you ^^
People been complaining about this shit for years... Nothing changes.

Do you mean it's ok to be forced to micro units because the game engine is inconsistent? I thought ZK is not a The Sims mod where you have to control every your unit. I might want to concentrate on building eco and making some good decisions, but my brain is occupied by some stupid micro at this moment.
Yes I know I have to control manually some important battles. But targeting defences every time becomes annoying very quickly.

What would "consistent" behaviour be like?
I agree that units are not that smart with targeting on their own, but i doubt this can be made much better in any simple way. Let's take shooting defenses in particular.
Quite often i expect a wave of raiders attacking into superior defenses to die, but cause economic damage. If they instead ignore the economy and all go shooting defenses, they will often not kill any of those while also leaving economy unscathed. In this case the rule "always shoot defense first" would be wrong and i would be "forced to micro".

using return fire as the fire state:
I read earlier this month, some changes was in making the "return fire" state shift to "fire at high priority targets" state.
Is it true or abandoned?
I remember the Dr. GoogleFrog used to use "hold position" while engaging. Auto is powerful, hope the game read your mind.

If there was a feature to choose a target priority for the whole group of selected units. I mean not the only 1 unit as a priority, but also unit type (can deal damage or not).
For example, it would be great to use Ravens in kill-defences-mode to destroy all defences (without microing every raven) and use Glaives after it to kill all remaining eco.

Return fire instead being "Shoot first at things that can/are shooting back at you" would be a useful change in my opinion.
It would give us a toggle for vs eco or vs defenses automatic attacks.

does "return fire" means you have to be damaged before you automatically attack? This sounds lame

I suppose "return fire" is a generic self-defense design for cloak units or long-reloading weaponry's .

"return fire" is a legacy from original Total Annihilation. It's never been particularly useful, but the Spring engine faithfully replicated it because it was in OTA.
GoogleFrog and other ZK devs have occasionally considered removing it or replacing it with something more useful.
