The Winter Mapmaking Contest has provided ZK with three new maps, and helped improve the tools we have, as well as bump the interest in making new maps. So while the success has been conservative, it's also been real.

This means that soon will be the time to host a new thing and see if it will be better!

This will come with a stricter, pre-arranged schedule, and a theme that will be announced on the first day. Additionally, the secret to-be-announced theme will be complemented by an asset pack of various features and gadgetry that i'll have hopefully enough time to assemble during March.

Hopefully, we'll also have some additional SpringBoard polish to make it an even smoother experience.

Dates: 09:00 UTC @ April 6th to April 20th 2019 (14 days = two weeks).

Theme: Announced on April 6th - you can practice random mapping skills meanwhile.

You are free to collaborate with others - this doesn't need to be an individual effort. Neither did the Winter map thing - in fact one of the entrants was actually a team :).

Can we have the tools ~ 1 week ahead?

Most of the time spend is actually troubleshooting and trying to get a playable result.

(I might try to do a map again!)

The idea for the asset pack is that it's going to match the theme, so releasing it earlier will spoil the theme. But its going to be just a bunch of pretties.

I imagine most of the SpringBoard advancements if they happen will be released as they roll.

I plan to work on SB before the event starts. Test it out and send feedback and suggestions.

Use this thread, SpringRTS SB subforum or SB GitHub issues https://github.com/Spring-SpringBoard/SpringBoard-Core/issues

Just skteching some ideas down, question: what the optimal total map mex metal income for 1v1\small team maps? 65 sound about right?

any mex amount above 40 (2m/s) feels speedmetalish for 1v1 games. For small team games there is no real right or wrong but an example would be Archers Valley v6 with 49mex (2m/s).

Something for mapmakers to consider: There are very few good FFA maps. In fact, there isn't a single good 6-way FFA map in the entire pool of thousands of maps.

In fact, my subjective list of moderately good FFA maps is really short:
3-way: La Isla Bonita
4-way: Thornford , SandCastles , Rouges River
5-way: Aum , Azure Rampart , Violence , BlackStar
6-way: None!
7-way: FataMorgana
8-way: None.

I would really like to see a FFA map.

We have zero 9-way maps. A single 10-way that is very metal heavy and a single 7-way.

We also have a few FFA maps that could use a remake.

-These have speed roads + are ugly-

Knockout looks theoretically fantastic for gameplay. Maybe it just needs lava, and done.
