Ok so now this actually makes sense. WHR was unable to process new battles, so it got stuck trying to process the same battles over and over again. Every time somebody played a battle, it went through everyone who had played a battle since the WHR crash and gave them at least the minimum elo reward/loss. That means every time somebody finished a MM battle you gained 1 Elo, since you had a victory game in the queue. Unfortunately some people had a lost game in the queue, and only the first game in the queue counts.
