I have played a couple of games and pathing feels so annoying, units go around hills even when I tell them to go to the top of it.
I understand that they are supossed to take the optimal path, but it differs so much from the order i gave them that they get close to the enemy and get killed. Just too unpredictable.
Did pathing get changed in recent versions or am I so rusty that I forgot how annoying the control feels?
How do I force an unit to take just the straight path without placing over 9000 orders?

1st one is correct though. Pathfinder takes the shortest way possible which would be one trough enemy territory since on the other side there are mountains that slows glaive down.

Let the knowledge of that it is improved (not fully fixed as i understood) in some distant engine version warms your hearts.

Pathfinder works in different resolution depending on distance.
At furthest distance it only calculates less excact path, small obstacles or so 'are not seen' at this first rough estimation.
When unit gets nearer to goal the resolution increases and a more excact path is calculated.
In extreme cases the "rough path" and "excact path" do not fit with each other, causing the unit to endlessly walk back & forth or suddendly finding itself close to goal but on the wrong side of a cliff.

Don't forget this; especially annoying for units with vehicle-like pathing that lose quite a bit of speed when turning.

Fear not, enemy units will suffer the same penalty.
