Well Good Afternoon to you all.
Before I say anything else, i like to say im sorry, because I'm not very good at english xD

well, let's get to the point...
I have a pretty nice computer, but there a little problem... this has no UNIT LIMIT!
when I'm playing with a bunch of ELITE guys, my CPU goes HIGH!
I'm telling you this because this is an awesome game, and i'm trying to bring more people over, but please, try to fix thi issue :D

My computer doesn't have any problems running Zero K ever and it's a couple of years old. Maybe try turning down your graphics settings a little?

It is at MINIMAL...
But thats not the point, the point is, if there is more and more robots and structures, it makes your game very lower...
all of my windows settings are at minimal too.. for the best gaming performance...

I don't know what the cause is then. I very rarely experience substantial slowdown even in 8vs8 games on large maps at high graphics settings.

I have a feeling there already is a unit limit option in Spring Engine, how that has translated to Zero K I don't know.

I'll try to find out what the problem is... when I find out, I'll let you know ;)

Try using a metal multiplier lower than 1. Lower income = less spam.
For example:
!setoptions metalmult=0.8

thanks for your support skasi :D
but one more question... do i always need to put that command when i create a game channel?
or simply do i need to put just one time ?
and another thing.. do you have more commands for me for the best performance ? :P
Thanks :P

The option will be set as long as the room is open. So when you create a new room you will need to type it again. Type !help and Springie (the bot hosting the game) will tell you a list of commands. I can't think of another way to increase performance; Don't think there's a command to lower the unit limit, although that's code-able.

Anyway, metalmult can be anything, even 0.01 if you still get poor performance. :P

Oh I nearly forgot. Sometimes units can cause an FPS drop when you order them to walk to impassable terrain. The engine tries to find a path, but keeps failing. Pathing is a bit broken in the current Spring version. That's fixed already in the new one I was told, but it's not released yet.

I dont have any lag even in chickens but then again i have a very fast quadcore cpu so maybe thats the reason.

Mostly just reduce graphics details - in zero-k lobby go to settings and click "low" or "medium" and test with that

He has it at minimal. He probably has an ATI card or a low mghz multicore?

(I'm surprised you run well with a quadcore, Zero-K doesnt support mutlithreadding).

Well its a i5 760 so even using 1 core out of 4 is fast. Faster than my old pentium 4. With 4 cores it got more than 10 times the power of my old pentium 4 (so each core is like 2.5 faster).

I also got a ATI card sometimes minimap gets fucked up but thats it.

Performance depends a lot on your graphics card. You can also try forcing the game to use only one core. Its possible to do it in settings->advanced engine configuration

The problem is SHIELDS!!!

I have a super-epic-brand-new gaming computer, but when someone makes a lot of shield generators or shield bots, and they're all on screen, it lags. And I have one of the best commercially available graphics cards. Note that this is an engine bug, not a ZeroK bug, as it happens in other games on Spring Engine too.

Yeah, shield rendering is in-engine. We should probably move it over to lua, because we can also make it look much much better there.

Why would lua be faster? The lua that I've seen so far for shields is slower and only looks ok on completely flat ground.

I'm on a 5 year old Dell Latitude D820 notebook.

The graphics card is a GeForce 7400 mobile.

The processor is a Core Duo operating at 2.16 Ghz. It's basically a dual-core P4.

I have been able to finish all but a couple games without lagging out due to unit count. I don't see it prudent to lower the unit count when a $349 HP computer can easily out-perform my current PC.

BalazyoPT, try this: does pressing F5 help? if it does, then the problem is with openGl; because F5 remove the game interface. eg: on my PC ZK run reeeaaally fast without interface... but I can't play without interface :(

Please try!
If true, nothing can fix it except update or change graphic driver.

I went from lagging like hell to catching up in long 8v8DSD games like a breeze.

Why?

Because I got a new CPU. My graphics card stayed the same (9800GTX, no dainty piece of work -- but it wasn't helping at all) but because Spring games eat a disproportionate amount of CPU that is generally the bottleneck for most gamers I would imagine. I went from ~5 fps lategame to a much more reasonable ~20+

The problem is probably not your graphics settings, or special effects, but most likely due to high processor requirements.

The rendering for cloak generators doesnt seem so bad.
