I made a model as a suggestion for the Plane Con. The hexagons cut out of the wings are holes that are meant to have propellers for a VTOL look.

I did post this in this thread: http://zero-k.info/Forum/Thread/4416 but the discussion there was focused on the abilities of the con, so I posted my model suggestion here.

Add a bomb bay if it's the bomb con, or a visible nanospray emitter if it's a traditional con. Would a cheap light con have 4 propellers or just one? I like the model in V2000:
You get the idea...

This is just the base model; I have no idea how the plane con will build, but it is easy enough to add a nano-sprayer or bomb-bay to the model. As for the propellers, I wanted to have a distinct plane look, and it doesn't look like it would hover with just 2 propellers.

Ideally planes should have collapsing wings and rotating engines. The Vamp is an ideal model here. Many of the models don't have this, I know (Others have it in the model but don't have it scripted) but that's the long-term goal.

Fans are generally a feature of gunships. This is a bomber and should probably have rotating jets. Think classic TA Thunder bomber.

If this is for a new constructor for -both- factories, add some construction mechanism and it's good. Of course the real burden is texturing, you can try using the fighter texture on it which we've already used 4 times.

Sadly, only two gunships of the whole selection have fans now. Most have those crazy always-raging jet exhausts.

I am not too happy with how this one turned out.

Is this style or the original style better?

Edit: Removed bad pictures, see my next post for "this style".

Try making the shape a bit more imaginative. I like the aesthetics of first concept, but second is much more interesting as a whole - just needs some polish.

Here is a better model with the jets mounted on rotating wings.

I think the first model looks more like a constructor although I do like the second model regardless. The bottom model looks like quite an expensive unit.

It's somewhat strange in what direction the hindmost wings are "pointing" (in both pictures). But other than that it looks awesome!

@MauranKilom The rear wings have a slight forward-sweep.

Yes, but (in my eyes) it conflicts with the front wings pointing in the other direction... I mean, the forward-sweep would be cool if not for the front wings working against that...

I can see what you mean.

Real-world forward-swept-wing planes all have "back-swept" winglets on their front:

So nothing conflicting here.

I am going to work on texturing the first one and I would like the fighter texture AUrankAdminSaktoth mentioned. Also, can I manually unwrap the model in Blender and texture it that way, or does Spring not support unwrapping? I read the Spring dev page on textures, but I saw no mention of how to apply the texture to the model.

Another thing, I can't find any good references for a nano-sprayer. Would just having a the nano-sprayer visible by texture be fine?

UV unwrap is the only way to texture for spring. So yeah, it's supported.
