Frame rate issue

Hi again guys!

You could call this a really superficial concern of mine, but I was just wondering what the most optimal settings were for zero k for:

-frame rate (it lags a lot, deteriorating from the realisticness of it )

and

-graphics (because I'm not able to see the great graphic visuals that are in the screenshots)

I was just wondering, because I was trying to create an epic battle the other day, and for some reason, it started hanging like crazy, and the units never really acted realistically as what I've seen in other videos.

I know the first questions you guys are going to ask are about my video card settings, and I'm not really good with that kind of stuff, so please bear with me XD. I do know that my video card has given me good results so far, in terms of 3D, graphics "load", etc.

Please let me know if I'm being too idealistic here, or if you need more information.

Thanks a TON for your responses. I really appreciate the help, guys!

Cheers,

Depends a lot on your hardware and drivers, if you could find out what graphics card and cpu you have to start off would be helpful.

Although it sounds to me like you are mostly having pathing problems. This is kind of expected, as pathing in the current engine release is awful. It's hugely improved in spring 0.83 though, both with the way the units move and performace wise. If you can hold out a few weeks until next engine release, your experience should be much improved!

There are some settings like relfections, terrain detail and particle count that could be reduced.

By the most likely thing is luckywaldo7's response. The pathing with this engine version is really bad and can get unreasonably slow with not particularly large unit counts. This appears to be fixed in the next version.

Hi, sorry for not responding! D: (I'm so bad at this)
Thanks for the responses, waldo and frog!

I took your guys' advice, and my frame rate has increased by decreasing particle counts, etc. I don't know what pathing is (sorry!), but as you guys say it's fixed in the next version, i'm eagerly keeping my mouse ready for action! :D

Thanks a lot, guys!

I'm wondering - what do you mean by "and the units never really acted realistically as what I've seen in other videos."?

Pathing's the pathfinding code. You know, that's units finding the fastest way through the map to their destination without getting stuck in obstacles.

Hey sorry, I totally forgot about this post :(

Skasi: Maybe it's just me, but I've seen the 3 spring videos on their main website, and it looks really lifelike and realistic to me. Maybe it's just my vid card and everything, or it's my idealism. I was just thinking, because the spring engine's rendering is usually the same for all mods, so if it worked for one, then it must look lifelike in the other, right?

Well if you mean unit antimations, they aint done magixally by the engine, they have to be written by people just like the gui and other things. Maybe its simply because units don't get stuck in these videos, cause pathing was fine back then. Just like the others said.

Really, the top of the Planetwars page should include a link to the guide, and the top of the guide should point out that you don't need to really "play" planetwars to participate in Planetwars battles - feel free to join them, the auto-balancer will work you into the game regardless and you'll be a non-aligned player. In fact, your presence as a non-aligned floater will improve the balance for the clanned players in the game.

Some things just never go away, heh.

@minerdude705: can you obtain the infolog.txt generated by crashing game? It should be either in your ~/.spring, ~/.config/spring, or wherever you installed ZKL into.
