All lavarise games end in a terraform boring race, so i think terraform should be disabled by default when selecting this gamemode.

I have never played a game with lavarise, can you link some replays?

I'd imagine the games would end in a hail of Quake missiles.

With slow lavarise settings there is no problem imo since the battle would end before lava starts being dangerous, but fast lavarise games always end with that terraform shit.
If we disable terraform by default those fast games will be more about finding and fighting for a high height place instead of those weird terraform hills

It's not an important topic since lavarise games are like 1/1000, but i think terraform ruins this gamemode.

Another issue is planes/gunships being destroyed when lava is high, shouldn't they be able to flY over it?

thanks.
hm, battle 1 is actually normal fighting going on all the time for the middle hill. At end south team wins the middle and has complete base etc.
North team has only 2 cons on a terraform pillar. No idea why south team does not use their superior eco to make bigger terraform? (so it IS decided by terraform but only in last minutes because one side lost the fight before that)

battle 2 is silly settings, after 2 minutes there is no path between teams, lolgame.

In some threads like http://zero-k.info/Forum/Thread/2415 I explained what has to be considered with regard to lava.
But mah awesome creation was turned into a pervetion!
Just like DSD and large teamgames, I might say.

When someone sets lavaoption you should test in private if the map will even be playable...

Buildings cannot be saved from lava. Try very high terraform cost multiplier if you want.

My point is that those terraform hills are pointless and make the game longer than it should be

The main interesting point in lavarise is exactly that, all buildings get eventually destroyed, so there is no porc... it's a race.
What i'm asking for is not critical, but i think it's annoying to have to make 2 votes to get an interesting lavarise game without those stupid hills. When people think about lava rise they will remember those terraform races and will not want to play that shit again.

!setoptions zkmode=lavarise,terraformcost=omgwtfhuge

I mean, you can put in multiple options, so it can be passed in one vote (assuming you have the political acumen to make it pass from first try).

Though, having terraform limit embedded into lavarise could make sense.

Alternatively, prohibiting the terraform to rise above map's highest point could work too - TF allows for all kinds of fun, and completely taking it out sounds suboptimal.

actualy why not just make the lave rize timer go faster once it has covered maps initial highest point?

that seems more logical then letting win/loss be decided by whoever got to highest point first and ploped an emg

The whole point of lavarise is fighting over the high ground :\

btw game 1 should have just ended with "team 1 has large advantage" or whatever the exact message is. 2 cons vs whole base.

about planes diving into lava and dying:
adjusting heightmap is too expensive sadly (else it would not need to that whole wupget crap) but maybe adjusting smooth mesh is doable?
So that the planes fly higher.
Spring.LevelSmoothMesh
In meantime do not use maps with too large heightdifferences.

Planes die because the lava is very hot.
