something like this which is able to transport more then one unit at once. Maybe have like a carrier version? kinda a flying fortress kinda unit but without the d-gun and it can spawn little gunships and it can hold many units? maybe 20 units?

Might be usefull, it would be alot easier to transport multiple units at once because valkyrie takes too much micro, especially if the player owning the transport is different then the one controlling the to be transported units which is often the case.

Plus it looks cool.

Build more transports.

The problem with multi-transports is a single point of failure and it's non-scalability. Picking up and unloading multiple units is also more difficult and time consuming than each unti having its own transport. The heavy transport used to do this. It didn't make anyone use it any more than they do now.

Okay, if we used to have it and nobody used it then I guess the idea only works theoraticly. I should try using more transports.

yes.
With area load/unload you can do drops pretty quickly.

There is one thing about dropships that could be improved though. That is its load animation. I wouldn' t mind if was about as fast as the starcraft dropships. (there you can almost instantly load units) In spring you have to watch the load animations finish to be sure everything is loaded up before you can send them away. (we might need to disable the transportation of enemy units then. But that would only improve the game further)

The reason transports are not very good is because of how AA is balanced. It has huge range and damage to shut down bombers into mid-late game. This means everything that is behind enemy lines is ALSO under AA. A dead zone of no AA cover that is behind enemy lines is the perfect place to drop with transports: Especially if there is AA cover over the vital structures that the dropped units can then move to and attack. But AA coverage is so good you basically don't get this.

The other reason is that there are so many boundry-penetrating units: Spiders, Jumpers, Amphs, Hovers, that you need defenses basically everywhere, and there are heaps of ways to get over impassable terrain. So not only are areas you might want to drop usually defended anyway, but the other options feel better.

The main reason though is they're just a bit finnicky to use. I actually think that well done early drops of things like Outlaws, Warriors or Zeus could be seriously OP, but nobody does it- this is why we haven't buffed Valk any more (Since BA, we've buffed it by like a factor of 5, yet it is used LESS).

Move the valk to the light vehicle fac. Boom, you start seeing vehicles on maps with cliffs, and you start seeing people use transports. The valkyrie can lift every unit in the LV fac, and the LVs have the most trouble with slopes. The only problem with that approach is that using a Valk to lift tiny units like Darts or Scorchers is wasteful because the valk can carry so much more weight.

It would also make cars vastly superior to any other land fac on flat maps, even more so than now.

Point. You'd probably have to severely nerf the transport to make that balanced - at the very least its speed would have to go.

Transporting does not only mean dropping enemy bases. Moving constructors around for faster expansion or reclaim (bandit plains) can be a big help. The ability to move slow units like zueses at hyperspeed within your own terretory (CCR) can also be a huge help.

There should be some kind of widget so that units could "request airlift" to required position.

... there is, Anarchid. Embark button summons the nearest available transport. Last time I used it the interaction was a little fiddly (the disembark button did nothing but you'd be transported through your move destinations in the queue and dropped at the last one) but it works well.
