CrazyEddie 12 years ago This has come up again in the Detriment model thread (by someone else! not me this time!), but it doesn't really belong there so I'm starting a new thread. The Crabe model is ugly and not in a good way. I'm very surprised that nobody else seems to think so. Yes the model fits the unit's role, but that doesn't mean it has to look ugly. I'm hoping that Captain Benz is just getting warmed up after having done the Infiltrator and Hermit and that he'll offer a new Crabe that knocks everyone's socks off. I also don't get its name. Why the "e" at the end? In one of Floris' streamcasts someone pronounced it "crabby", which I guess is a typical European rendering of a final e. But to a native English speaker the word looks like it rhymes with "babe" - i.e. "crayb" or "craib". Not that either pronunciation makes any sense to me. Is it supposed to mean something, or evoke something, or allude to something? Why not just "Crab"? Or, if you want to go for something a bit more exotic, how about "Karkinos"? That's the Greek name for the mythological giant crab that the constellation Cancer is named after. +0 / -0

sprang 12 years ago I don't find crabe ugly at all, but maybe I've just gotten used to it during the years. There was a time when new modelers hadn't set the standards so high, and it was actually one of the best looking models imo. +0 / -0
Connetable 12 years ago Crabe is not ugly, its white colour and short cannon makes it easily recognizable, along with the armor plates on the legs. It's just that its style is different from CptBenz's spiders. +0 / -1

[pikts]wolas 12 years ago Crabe looks ugly? Man... Its on of the best models out here it looks what it is I cant even imagine replacement for it. It is obvious for every newb that when it curls it is in "shielded state" I cant say same for hover assault unit. +0 / -0

DanteLorel 12 years ago I don't like the model much either. It was the best-looking unit in the factory before Benz's revamping, but that isn't saying much. I think it's too bright and too plain to fit in with the infinitely more awesome replacements. Given the choice, I'd like to see a new model for it for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it looks bad compared to, and alongside, Benz's models. I understand the need to keep it distinctive but it could retain its white colouration (after all, the Tarantula and Recluse are coded grey and brown respectively), it just needs to be brought in line stylistically with its comrades. Secondly, I think it's ridiculous how the legs rotate a full 180 degrees when it changes from moving to armoured. It'd make more sense if they simply pulled inwards to from a tight shell, perhaps with some fold-out armour plates joining gaps between legs as it deploys. +0 / -0

Saktoth 12 years ago The outline of black on white really stands out, and makes this unit pop from the background way more than most others in the game. That's what's great about it. I think Benz is just getting better and better and is more than capable of making a new, superior model for this unit. But it looks pretty good right now anyway. +0 / -0
