Spring Hangs After 5 Seconds

I just did a fresh install on windows 7 64bit and it seems more than half my games I try to start crash about 5 seconds in, after I drop my commander.

also, i've tried running with the newest graphics drivers for my graphics card, including the beta also.

Seems I'm at in impasse. I've tried changing every setting and it still happens regardless of what settings I choose and how many times I restart and change/update drivers, uninstall/reinstall. I even tried it on a fresh install of windows. I have a feeling it's a problem with the enemy AI. I've pretty much given up on this though--it's not really fun to have to load 5 times just to play once :(
