Building terrafor bug?

Many times have noticed that putting a large building (e.g. desolator) on a spire by pressing B and adjusting height would fail. The terraform would go as planned, but resulting spot would be too small to fit intended building.

Are you perhaps trying to place the Desolator next to another building?
Terraform will fail if there is not enough space to increase the foundation to fit the Desolator (or any other building) as it will need to take a pyramid shape which takes more space the higher you try to place the building.

Nope, in free spot. I think I found the reason though. Recon com (that I use nearly always) can terraform spire tall enough so desolator's center is outside of build radius. Thus, terraform completes, but building can not be placed due to not enough build range. Or maybe that is not the case. I'll update if I can figure this out.

Yes, it is also possible to fail due to lacking build range.

jump and place nano mid-air. then make caretaker. or terrorform spike-elevator for you com to step up. or just use superior build-com.

The thing that plans terraform fails to account for the pyramidism effect when telling you that "yep, you can totally terra this high up".
Your problem typically happens when there's a terraform-blocking structure somewhere just a bit away from the pillar.

Yes, tested it out a bit more. With long-range builders or aircons this never happens. I suppose one way to fix this would be to change color of terraform box under the building to be placed so it goes e.g. yellow when resulting spire would be too high for current builder to actually make the thing on top. Of course terra-blocking thing would be harder, and probably the fix for that is to not bother=)
