Hey there. I'm back once more, this time I am actively developing. At this point, I've considered it time to move on from flag maps and onto the real deal. I started modding zk in silence about 2 weeks ago and I think it's time to reemerge and show my work.

For the first concept I came up with here is the Proliferator fighter/bomber.



Just a small sample of what I've been working on. There are a few other units that I'll be showing off throughout the week. Let me know any ideas you have and I'll try to implement them. ;)

I have a few other things up my sleeves. I did some widget optimization, and made 4 other units. EErankAdminAnarchid there's also something for you ;)

If you look closely the proliferator is actually two weapons. A guided missile and an unguided cannon projectile that I stole off of pillaged. I'll show off the firebrand when I get home in a few hours.

Meantime here's a development fail:


Lesson: Don't name your variables x,y,z and vx,vy,vz while performing late night coding. This is a sample of the ORCA MRV (Orbital Reentry Crustacean Annihilator) failing miserably. It's supposed to be a superweapon. I think maybe tonight I'll try my hand at fixing the zenith.

It's only a fail if you don't find a way to make use of it. Skipping missiles would be a pretty novel weapon type.

Was meaning to come back earlier, but got swept up in midterms.

So here's the deal:
Name something you'd like to see in zk, and I'll try to grant that wish. If you could change one unit, what would it be?


Current ideas:
  • Adding delay fire/multistage penetrator/Annihilator.
  • More fun with sea. (Eventually) -- Claymore, better amphs, cooler ship striders, better drones.
  • Hoverboard.
  • Touch Licho, thunderbird. -- Thunderbird: EMP time bombs? Licho: nuclear mine side arm?
  • Make commanders fun again. -- Cooler weapons, more impactful, bigger explosions, explosion packs?
  • Turn bertha into something cooler.
  • Bantha / Detriment upgrades. (Detri JumpJet / MRVs?) (Bantha dgun -> regular missile launcher using CAS? CAS dgun?)
  • Leviathan MRV / Mobile Nuke Launcher?
  • Carpet miner bomber?

My vote goes to jump jet detri

Edit: I would actually like for paladin to not be so spammable in FFA...so very random thought: Replace head laser with a big powerful version of its arm guns, lightning rifle, at medium/skirmisher range. And put something else in place of arm guns, light particle beam lasers? It could also get a small movement speed buff I suppose.

PS: Invert Grizzly laser turrets so that it can only shoot itself.

Maybe paladin cost increase + laser head -> multistunner eye?
Lightning arms -> Lightning bomb arms?
Awful horrible dgun missiles -> Awesome autofire CAS EMP rockets?


RE: Detri: I was thinking of giving it the ability to land whereever it wants with a good sized cooldown (45s+) and/or making it slowly go there. Or maybe give it slow acceleration during the jump? For guns, it could shoot rail accelerated tacnukes. It might be hilarious to give it a much bigger boom too.

Giving it infinite jump range on long cooldown would allow it to enter actual game ender territory. Thoughts on detri being game ender?

AFAIK a Detriment rework is the most likely thing from that list to be pulled with minor fuss.

Changes to Claymore, Commanders and drone mechanics are not unwanted but will almost certainly require significant discussion and consultation to get buyin, and it's entirely possible they will not get traction at all.

Many of the other things listed would need a compelling balance/design argument. Which may exist in some cases.

Of course, if you're just modding for your own amusement most of this is irrelevant.
