The results of a recent poll on 1v1 matchmaker maps are here:

Discuss.

Ideally new maps should not need to be deployed (for reference any map appearing in the campaign satisfies this, among others).

My initial take would be to replace Desert Needle, Barren and Vittra with something along the lines of:
* Calamity, Otago, or some other largeish map
* Iced Coffee or Dune Patrol, or some other smallish map
* Archers Valley or Obsidian

I'd like to see Gecko Isle stick around a little longer but Hide and Seek and Trojan Hills could go.

what kind of elevation are these thirds you colour and speak of

Iced coffee and dune patrol are trash(as are most of the other suggested replacements). Lets not make the pool any worse ok? Those maps were removed for a reason.

IMO right now the pool is better than its ever been.

Although I am a little surprised that Barren has the least people who like it.

Desert Needle scored better than Hide and Seek, remove that before DN imo.

Looking at the graphs I have a feeling PLrankOrfelius voted incognito many-many times.

Edit: Otherwise can't explain why Desert Needle and Vittra scored so low.

I always loved Barren and Iced Coffee myself. Maybe that's because I'm trash though.

I can't quite put my finger on what about those maps with mostly "lower third" votes makes them the worst, but I do agree with the ratings in general. When I think about these maps I get a sense of "boggishness", like they're hard to move through with the factories they support. They also generally tend to pull you away from the center because of their metal distribution.

So maybe it's a combination of being spread out, sluggish to travel around, and difficult to defend? Anyone else have a better summary?

The highest rated ones are generally easy to get around on, have a clear reason to control the center, less emphasis on the corners or edges of the map, and support the fast factories (which in general feel better to play right now).

Solution to make everyone happy:
Add all the maps and give people a bunch of vetos.

Please, above anything, no Calamity.

Now that we had a vote on what maps to remove, why don't we make a vote on what maps to add?

Why isn't this a vote?

The graph above is the result of a vote. If you have some maps you want to see leave given the results of that vote, and some suggestions for what should replace them, then go ahead.

The pool of maps to add is larger, but is subject to constraints like maintaining variety in the map pool, so a poll is less directly useful. I guess somebody could make one anyway though.

Anyone with a bit of C# is free to implement veto. I'll support it lobbyside.

Just to be clear I didn't vote multiple times to skew the results and tbh I'm quite surprised that Hide and Seek scored so low.

Imho a macro map should be replaced with another macro map not a small map like Iced Coffe or Dune patrol.

Now I know I've advocated the removal of Valles Marineris from the matchmaking pool in the past... but I think it is much better than Desert Needle Small.

Another option would be Into Battle which, why it isn't exactly a marco map it also plays relatively well.

Alternatively Desert Needle Small and or other maps for that matter could be tweaked with to acheive better gameplay. There is a relatively simple fix for Desert Needle: just reduce metal per mex on that map.

Damn, I didn't realize my favourite map (Trojan Hills) is so widely disliked. I'm not really sure why. I guess the difficulty in setting up a full defense between all the approach paths is part of it, especially against spiders, but to me the solution is Trojan Hills with a water level like Bandit Plains.

Also, I agree with USrankFealthas, Iced Coffee is trash, and I say that as its creator. It's a bit of a shame Zero-K doesn't have any WYSIWYG mapping tools I can find, since I can't find JPrankgajop's scened, or else I'd be able to make far better maps in the spare time I have.

JPrankgajop's scened is now called SpringBoard and is here http://springboard-core.readthedocs.io/en/latest/
Sadly the distribution is broken anf I cannot fix it without an Internet connection so I recommend you just clone it in your game's dir like you would with a normal Spring game

Are people forgetting that the more maps there are with veto % the harder it is for matchmaker to match players in team games?

we need better maps for 1v1 and small team games.

Many of the latest map releases have been directed for larger team games.

why do people love red comet so much?

Small teams games needs more maps like

Mescaline https://zero-k.info/Maps/Detail/17028
Tropical http://zero-k.info/Maps/Detail/22940
Tempest http://zero-k.info/Maps/Detail/7874
Tabula http://zero-k.info/Maps/Detail/34970
Tundra https://zero-k.info/Maps/Detail/7919

I'm tired of sharing like 6 mexes between 4 people on a tiny 1v1 map like fairyland. Small team games are super underwhelming when forced to play tiny maps all the time.

#BasiC this is a discussion about 1v1. Its obvious that rules about vetoing could be different for teams MM, if it was even present at all.
