I made a poll to get some data on the 1v1 matchmaker maps: https://goo.gl/forms/eoR11QaKBro5bSXm2

We are not changing map categorization prior to release as changes could screw up our build system. That said, changes could occur afterwards and I am still curious to see the results. The rumor going around is that for everyone that hates a particular MM map there is someone who loves the map.

Feel free to discuss, post more details, tell me why my poll skews the data, and make your own polls instead.

How can you jump to results of the poll? I've submitted my preferences but didn't view results and now I can't.

Also regarding map choices, I think it's good idea to introduce later a weekly map rotation, where matchmaker focuses on 6 maps from approved map pool per week. Some of rotations could be themed - like eco maps like comet catcher, gecko, needle or eye of horus, small maps, water maps, flat maps etc. Just rotations.

Maps that aren't currently in map pool, but I enjoy and would like to play from time to time are: Zed, Cold Snap, Obsidian, Tartarus and some water maps.

While rotation sounds nice in theory, everyone has his preferred map style. I would probably sit out the water and small map weeks. By having some of each, this is being avoided. Once we have enough players, we might be able to let players choose the maps or map pool they want to play on. Adding more queues is simple.

I would prefer the rotation to not be themed. Water or other specialty maps can apply on common grounds.

Don't add more queues, let everyone ban some of the maps.

I think it's important to have maps selected by the designers in accordance with a specific vision of what 1v1 should be. I wouldn't trust the community at large to select appropriate competitive 1v1 maps. Taking feedback into consideration however is very wise.

I think I'd also prefer a large but fairly static pool rather than a varied rotation. I'm definitely against themed rotations unless the theme is purely visual rather than based on the actual terrain features (e.g. green maps vs flat maps).

I personally would like a consistent and well-designed ranked 1v1 experience week to week.

The only map I somewhat dislike is Desert Needle Small 3.2 because raiding is too hard and there isn't much point to doing much until you have like 40-50 metal income and then Rovers and Thunderbird are just too good at controlling the map while taking territory. Gameplay and strategies feels shallow on this map.

Would you link to results of poll?

Just giving everyone a bunch of map vetoes would make everyone happy. Nobody has to play maps they dislike, and have a higher chance of getting matches in which both players like the map.

What Fealthas said is pretty standard in RTS

I've asked for map bans but it hasn't happened.

I think that Dual Icy run does not have a bad layout, its main offenders are that it's mirrored icy run without rethinking mex placement and geothermals. Also texture and hills are kind of ugly. I like the simple layout of hills and 3 "lanes" to fight at.
