I thought welders were supposed to beat an equal cost in raiders now. That was the change, right?

I mostly play JJ, so honestly I was pretty happy with the pyros work against them. Certainly better than puppies could ever do.

The actual posts i've read said "beat 1 scorcher reliably". Beating raiders for cost sounds terrifying.

They have a very short range superiority and are more maneuverable, so in theory they can kill Welders very well - perhaps even better than 4 glaives. Now i'm thinking whether Scorchers can also kill Welders for free by circling around at edge of Welder range.

Probably not: Scorcher has 270 range vs Welder's 240 (woah), so it wil be shooting at (1-240/270) of its 300 dps, which gives us 30 damage per second against Welder's 2k hp... more than a minute of slow cooking. Though i guess once it's half cooked the Scorcher can dive in and finish what it started.

But Welder also can make a Lotus in just 12 seconds, and after the Lotus is online the Scorcher has no hope left. The fastest a Scorcher can kill a Welder is in 6 seconds of point blank firing, so it has at most 6 seconds of slow cooking available, for meager 180 damage, barely 10% of welder's HP...

Pyros don't have this damage falloff and actually do bonus damage to welder's huge colvol, they're like the best raider here. Certainly better than the 250m Scythe!

I mean, Pyro beats welder by 20 range. Bandit beats it by 5 range Scorcher beats it by 30 range. I am not really sure any of these actually outrange it on a functional level, enough that they have some extra damage, but not enough that they can actually avoid being hurt in the fight.

Watching you micro them in the replay it felt like just a bit more control accuracy and it would have been free cooking. There were several consecutive seconds of Pyro firing at a Welder one-way.

I guess that's impractical to expect full free kills, but i'd settle for actually killing the Welder in one go in the first place.

You can do this manually using force-fire to scale cliffs or evade shots (a micro'd puppy can kill a defender this way).

Mm... after playing Jumpjets against Spiders. Maybe Jump cons should get a little damage just to deal with fleas. Nothing else in the factory can deal with them effectively when expanding.
