What's a Speherical and Cylindrical weapon?

I'm unable to visualise this in my head, and I can't understand the difference between sphere and cylinder type weapons..

Does anyone have a graph that shows how they work?

Afaik its about range.

Imagine a shpere of a certain radious with your unit in the middle of it. If an enemy unit gets inside of the sphere, ur unit can hit it.

Cylidrical works similarly, but u need to put ur unit info a verticap cillinder. This means unit has a certain horizontal rangÄ™, but unlimited vertical one. BP works like this. If ur builder has 100 range, it can build things up to 100elmo away horizontally, but no matter where it positioned vertically.

The main practical implication is that spherical weapons are bad at shooting up, but cylindrical ones are not.

There are actually three main types of weapons: spherical, cylindrical and ballistic.

Spherical range applies to lasers and things similar to lasers. Weapons with spherical range have range limits both horizontally as well as vertically. If something is too high or too low, they won't be able to reach it. That's why you don't see many stingers on spires, and only short spires even if then, because they effectively lose range if you hoist them up.

Cylindrical range mostly applies to rockets and missiles. These weapons have no vertical limit, and thus can hit anything inside their range circle.

Ballistic range applies to plasma projectiles and arty weapons and all similar things. These weapons are affected by gravity and their range is not a simple sphere or cylinder. Ballistic weapons gain range vs things that are lower altitude and lose range vs things that are higher altitude. This is why crabe and DDM and stardust spires are effective.

Ballistic weapons still use spherical range, with the difference that they scale up or down depending on the shooter and the target altitude reference.
The higher the shooter is, compared to the target, the bigger the sphere. And the other way round, the lower the shooter the smaller thr sphere.

There's also ellipsoid which is not supposed to be used but sometimes still is (eg. until recently flamers were ellipsoid).

Then there are torpedoes which are cylindrical in water but ballistic outside it.

Is the impaler cylindrical or spherical?

I noticed that the range gets less when attacking uphill. But with how the weapon works, this seems a little silly...

Now you're confusing the matter. There is only ons sphere, it doesn't get bigger and smaller. Also, a sphere is a particular shape which ballistic weapons don't have. They are more like a cone.
