Commander fallen from sky gets stuck on a factory

Seriously, whats the point of that "feature"? Remove it please, it has only caused problems.

lobsters are not meant to fly, so sometimes they fall down.
The point of this activity is to look cool.

on screenshoted chat:
dsd8v8 is not totally equelevant to current clusterfuck.
dsd8v8 always has the same figured-out strategies. clusterfuck has no strategies beside cheese.
dsd8v8 has minimum level of serious and attempt to win. in clusterfuck players get away with doing totally useless things.
dsd8v8 requires teamwork between eco-players,frontpeoplers,flyers and on average that happens. in clusterfuck it is clusterfuck.
in parallel to dsd8v8 used to exist competetive scene. in shadow of clusterfuck exists nothing.
dsd8v8 was thought to be the maximum archiveable level of clusterfuck, until it zk took clusterfucking another step further.

dsd8v8 was played on one map only, dsd. Clustergames are played on many many maps.

The kind of cooperation that implies letting the front meatshield die while you eco at back

Not really.
See how TheGBC / Mean stacks roflstomp the All Welcome room from time to time. Cheese isn't needed, just strong cooperation between reliable players.

DErank[2up]knorke you should stop drinking when frustrated. It makes you say silly things like
quote:
lobsters are not meant to fly
when they most certainly are:

That said, why don't you join the Small Teams or 1v1 room? Or any other of the small games we've got plenty of?

I had joined it. Even recently too.
There was too much waiting and chat and too little playing.
The numbers of small games is imo not "plenty" but few. Bad wait:play ratio.

DSD is most played 8v8 map, but there other maps fitting for 8v8 also get played. I just gets clumped under the dsd8v8 term.
Much of the zk-Clusterfuck "map variety" on tiny maps like Icyrun or Titanduel or the singing face I do not classify as RTS but as joke.

Bad players will always hide behind "meatshields", in both mods.
I already posted elsewhere in more detail why in BA even eco-player must be prepared to make units and why ecoing in BA actually takes some skill. In zK there can be eco-players who make fusion as first building and then make more fusions, no thinking or fighting required. Extreme case being "help singu or resign."

Wrt http://zero-k.info/Forum/Thread/22606 that I "derailed" this thread:
This is not a thread about commanders falling from sky.
It is comments section of a replay.
Posting bugs/infologs into replay comments is feelgood++ but otherwise useless.
If you want to report bugs then do it at bugtracker.

Your data must be out of date. Icy/trololo hasn't been played in 6v6+ in 41 days and 39 days respectively. (There was an icy run game recently, but it was short lived and I do not think a 26 second game qualifies as a match on the map)

Current 6v6+ games are usually on fairly decent maps for their size with the occasional silly map.

so instead of icyrun there now is Icy LongRun v2 beta3
Multiplayer B418141 15 on Icy LongRun v2 beta3

and instead of trololo there is now Trololo_zombie
Multiplayer B418746 6 on Trololo_zombie

same difference. I think you know what kind of matches/maps I mean.

also despite the recent discussions about hosts/settings/mappool still silly maps on official hosts:
Multiplayer B419255 2 on duke_nukem
Multiplayer B419146 2 on SuperSpeedMetal
Multiplayer B419052 2 on DownCount_v2
@418938

wrt to the very short 26 seconds game:
The same is true for the "plenty of" 1v1 and small-teams replay list.
Take out the did-not-start-matches.
Take out the shitmap-matches.
Take out the trolled matches.
Take out the private passworded matches.
After this there is not much left.

Meanwhile there were many battles on TitanDuel, Comet Catcher, Folsom etc...
But you still complain about a rare case of IcyRun being played.

I don't understand why some people complain about an occasional game on trololo or icy run. What makes these maps less serious/competitive than other maps? All maps have a different heightmap, a different metalmap and a different map size. Some maps being more unique in these aspects makes them interesting and can open up new tactics/strategies.

I do understand that players might not enjoy playing on certain maps. The same is true for myself. Players are free to !votemap or leave a room. However, results on these maps will still not be completely random. Winning a balanced game is not trivial.

Is it just the music/texture that makes trololo "bad"? The former can be disabled, the latter can be ignored. Is it just the size? If yes, then why? Why do small maps not qualify as serious/competitive? Your enemies will try just as hard or just as little (depending on the players and their mood) to beat you at the game as on other maps.

Zero-K is a game about mastering circles regardless of the map. Even maps that include unfair randomness (eg. spawning units) require skill/work to be won more often than lost, similar to FFAs, provided you play enough games on them.

I don't think anybody would care about the existence of these maps if they didn't come at the expense of standard maps.

I sometimes play them if other people want to and it's randomed by the host. But some people who don't like standard maps will !votemap them routinely, which, for someone not looking to really play these maps, feels like an obstacle to playing ZK. Since there is a herd mentality with maps, and I'm already hard pressed to find times available to both me and other people, having to mess around with votemaps, and then leaving the populated room if they do decide to play icy run or speed metal, is a pain in the ass.

I'm not saying that these maps are terrible, but I don't enjoy them. They don't fall within the parameters of what I consider the full version of ZK (such as having expansion and rewarding map control). Their existence hurts my ZK experience by limiting the games I'm able to play that I enjoy. Surely that's understandable?

Once the community is big enough, nobody will begrudge people playing these maps. But so long as our fates are aligned, people gonna be grumpy when the pack moves in a direction that's not conducive to their gratification. They gonna try to exert control over the pack to get more of what they enjoy. Just like the people constantly !votemapping for speedmetal.

Knorke, I had a decent period of BA. I can very well remember getting upset of the impossibility to play anything other than DSD. After people would finally get bored of DSD, they would play one tabula map, and then back to dsd. Actually, what brought me to ZK was I was seeing other maps being played there and I desperately wanted to see more map variety. So for this only reason already, ZK is better.

yes.

I am bewildered that many peoplers wonder about the difference between Trololo and RTS.

This is a competetion too:

You can train for it. You can prepare your body for it.
But it is more bizarre entertaimnent than a sport or game. Same with shitmaps.

This "many games" talk is absurd, the amount is very low. It takes long waiting and idling to find games.
It was not always like and that annoys me. There used to be more active and bigger playerbase but it was killed.
And yet some peoplers act as if current state is some high peak, with the silly clan-wars consisting of old rusty players or noobs. Tourneys with participants that played less than 10 1v1 in last months, really?

It makes me sick that people still talk about this "once the playerbase will be bigger" when the playerbase already WAS bigger but all the only made it SMALLER and more trolly.
It used to be that in lobby there used to be a CHOICE between rooms. Many 1v1 going on at same time. Can you imagine today that withing minutes there would be 16 players for a spontanous tourney? And it would all be good, competetive players?
Today we are discussing why Trololo is not a serious map.

I'm not online all the time, far from it, but this:

"Many 1v1 going on at same time. "

I've never seen.

yes, that is the problem:
I have not seen that since some years now either.

imo for example posts how great and competetive planetwars matches used to be or the zk "clan wars."
Also all the high-worded theorycraft discussions that stand in no relation to the amount (or quality) of serious matches actually played.
Then the whole idea that zk would be able to stand on its own and actually grow, bad overestimation.

Actually, PW was pretty nice in its latest instance. Of course I can't talk for everything, but it was much more interesting to me than previous versions. I don't remember anyone saying that its matches were great and competitive though. Could you link to a specific thread or such? I'd like to watch the replay(s).

First of, read full paragraph: It is about "many games" too.
(the amount)

quote:
Could you link to a specific thread or such?
No, imo this forum is unsearchable because the search-function is either dumb or I am too dumb to use it and the title of thread and content of thread are always random.
But I mean posts like "we should bring back zk clanwars!" as if that would be point worth returning to. The point worth returning to is far earlier in time.
And for people overestimating amount of matches..read any serversplit/steam thread?
