Previously I used cheaper tier OVH servers (soyoustart and kimsufi).
It was ok, though historically slow HDD was killing it.
Recently though, they removed vKVM feature from their soyoustart and kimsufi hosts. This is a feature which allows you to have remote access to server in case OS won't boot - it simulates keyboard, mouse and transmits screen.
Few months ago I had to deal with emergency on friend's server, whch was hosted by soyoustart. Due to lack of vKVM it was incredibly complex, took over month to recover data and was only possible because it was linux..
I wanted to upgrade the ZK machine a bit, to deal with expected Steam release, so I wanted to get one with SSD drives to remove last bottleneck. Originally I was waiting for soyoustart option with 3x SSD. But this one was always "not available", I even wrote a program that sends me SMS message when server becomes available for ordering .. waited for 3 months and current server was nearing end of it's lease.
Seeing lack of vKVM and unability to order SSD, I choosed rather expensive professional hosting option from OVH this time. Cost is further increase by a need for windows license lease...
It costs around 130€ per month + some extras for windows licenses..
I'm not sure I can get VAT refund this time, like the last time, because server is not used for commercial purposes.. will see when fiscal year ends.
I'm gonna review it after this lease end's next year august or so..
