So, I checked the rules today to see if there was really a rule against what most players call "smurfing". There is not. I would (Presume?) that this really isn't a offense unless you purposely make a ton of accounts just to be rude and damaging. So is it ok to use another account?

It's not okay to play with it (because that ruins Elo) and circumvent punishments. This usage of alternate accounts is what you call "smurfing".

It's fine otherwise.

From what I can tell there is no official policy on it, but alt accounts are usually left alone unless they are used to break balance or evade bans.

You can get Elo copied by an admin to legitimize the other account.

Planet Wars have separate Elo so as long as both don't participate after the reset it should be alright.

Why get the other account though? Testing the lobby infrastructure? Access to ex-clan?

Alternate accounts that don't have visible purpose are likely assumed to be intended for smurfing.

Theres no reason against you using a smurf RUrankParzival. Your elo is pretty close to that of a new player and you have not been punished. I see no harm in you wanting to play with another account.

It's funny that of all the admins EErank[ISP]Lauri brought this topic up to you.

Furthermore the CoCkis not the best place to look up rules. It's a complete mess and more confusing than anything else. For the most part you should be alright if you just try to not be Mean.

You can use the command /rename [new_name] if you just want to rename. It is possible [springie] servers don't support this (admins help me pls), but if you log in to a TA server, or just send a message to a TA server it should work :)

CZrankIcyIcyIce, changing the name on the Spring server will not affect the account on the Zero-K server and the Zero-K server does not support the command.

I have done this in the past. My old account, to which I have lost the password smrXcodEe was renamed to [X]smrXcodEe and everyone saw it work...

It means this is not true:

The "K-factor", or Elo uncertainty, of a new player is much higher than that of a normal account. This causes higher Elo fluctuation on each change, for both players. Probably mostly meaningful in 1v1 but applies to any mode.

Also note that while new accounts start at 1100, they get 400 free Elo over time.

Note that not all admins can rename (@[ISP]Lauri cannot!).
You can report your wish to rename using the report feature. This makes sure the people with the power to do so see the request.
