Pillager is too weak?

I'm having trouble using the Pillager effectively. I play heavy tanks a lot and I've been building them to shore up defensive emplacements, attack enemies front line llt/missile tower emplacements, and to support lategame attacks. However I feel I don't do well with them in any role and I find myself thinking that the extra reaper I could have bought for (roughly) the cost of that pillager would have been better for me. Is the pillager too weak or am I using it wrong.

All artillery is weak except for the pene and the sharpshooter. This is intentional I think. Especially for fast-projectile artillery, where they can snowball terribly.

Use it for stuff you can't hit with a reaper.

Would be fun to try a modoption/gamemode where all arty has significantly lower cost or higher ROF. Maybe it's just me , but dedicated artillery (Hammer, Impaler, Pillager, Tremor) just seems very weak.

Yup, Impaler confirmed OP. I constantly use it to deny metal spots to enemies on TinySkirmish. That is, I would if I played. It's also nice to snipe Mexes, LLTs, Solars, Caretakers, Radars and similar targets. In other words, every shot is worth around 75-220 metal. Oh and some people mentioned that killing emped commanders with Impalers is fun as well.

Anyway this is about Pillager so um.. yeah dunno. Can it be used for any of these things?

in my opinion pillager arent weak, they are high range killers.
Get 3 or 4 and then just attack.

IMO Pillager is not weak but Reaper is even more not weak which makes Pillager comparatively not not weak.

all artillery is the same - useless without los, op with los

walk some cloak unit next to enemy front line if you want OP

Artillery changes the game paradigm.

It becomes about forcing your your opponent to attack you or lose their base slowly. So you always need have a position stronger than your opponent's depite having invested 700 metal arti. This is not difficult to do given the extensive defensive advantages.

You opponent can also snipe it so you need to dilute you army strength in order to prevent this.

They can also set up their position in such a way as to negate your artillery. Radar blocking and shields, as well as caretaker spam can negate a fair amount of damage, but as far as I can tell will not stop most forms of artillery. Spamming nano frames too!

The final option for them is to get more artillery than you, or to use theirs more effectively.

The pillager and tremor are sort of weaker than other arti in a sense, since they are always competing with reaper. There are plenty of times that the artillery wins out though. A single terra wall stops any number of reaper, and some maps sort of encourage a forward porcing style to park your arti in.

Pillager is still to weak because of slow movement, low hp and low rate of fire. Give it more range because of it's inaccuracy

The pillager is great for its purpose. If you have LoS and something to defend a few pillagers they can smash just about any defensive line unless it has extreme shielding. Any buff but damage would make them a lot more useful against mobiles and they would become an incredibly powerful skirmisher.

then why i dont see it used in game GBrankTheSponge ? Only newbies use it from what i know. I myself will never do that. I prefer to go light v with impalers. At least that's what i suggest for each player in case they start to be disappointed because of it. I never make it in game, and i prefer to rush the tremor instead of pillager. Tremor has better aim even if it's a arty rain of bombs.

Feels like you're underselling it. Especially since people have been complaining there's no point in building tremor since pilli is in same fac.
