The word "it" has negative connotations. If you want to go gender-neutral, use "they" or "xe" or "ze" or "xhe" or "zhe" or whatever.

If you use "they" be sure to pluralize all sentences because singular "they" is like grammar-graser to the grammar-eyeball.
