Zero-K updates to Spring Engine 83!

At last, we are switching to the latest engine version which features many improvements (performance, visuals) and fixes (vehicle pathing).

ATTENTION:
TO UPDATE SMOOTHLY:
  • on windows, restart Zero-K lobby 2x and join the game
  • if on linux, wait for package update and follow links at http://springrts.com/


Note that this engine is a major update and it will certainly contain new bugs too. We will be addressing those asap.

We actually had to disable engine 83 for a while, it turned out to have some serious issues... Its still running on Iridium autohost.

Ahh thanks for the update Licho. Is there an ETA as to when it will be resolved or is there a different ppa available to get an older version?

Atm you can play on Iridum autohost - those are using 83 engine. We dont know what will happen yet because we discovered several new problems in 83. But I expect it to be resolved in a day or two (either full release despite bugs or new version)

I think the bugs are too severe. If they release despite bugs I think we should stick to the old engine.

Yeah... I am also getting graphical issues, and I haven't even managed to play a game yet as it is very difficult to get a game going. Could we at least get some dedicated servers running the old engine? And why does it seem I have to re-download my maps?

im getting stacktrace errors to all hell, getting 1 every 2 seconds and it says stacktrace failed?

Just lookt at current stable release it took 7 bugfix releases to make it "stable" this is not diferent.

New engine seems reasonably playable to me, barring a few bugs:
- rectors dont work (they perform one action, then they can no longer build anything or build assist)
- freakers - same issue
- you can not /take someone
- fixed wing bombers cannot reload bombs, neither at factory nor at repair pad

Engine seems to load faster (haven't tried big or speedmetal maps yet)

There is a lot of in chat spam about some widgets not working properly, but dont ask me which ones.

Most stuff seems to be working just fine, i.e. com and unit morphing, jump commands, giving factories fight orders (but don't do that on a cloaky or jumper factory and have it produce constructors, those will be useless after their first build-assist).

There are some people that cannot really play the game, they have difficulty loading or their graphics drops to 1fps, why I have no idea (Akantor being an example).

So, near unplayable is a very big and unnecessary word for something that is in 'testing'.

Regarding worker not working - deselect it and select again.

that seems to work for the freaker, wich only occasionaly give me trouble but not for the rectors who just continue to refuse to build after the first building.

Air not working and several cons not working is pretty much unplayable allong with the lua lag bugs etc.
