Standard Krow rush!

Does any of the guys who saw the youtube video know why the freeze are happening?

Is it because of the game, cause it happens for me like you see in the video only 50% less intensity
Or is it because of the recording program?

maybe it was by fail?

I dont know, the missile just fired randomly without my action. I didnt know why that area of map exploded until i saw 1 of my missiles were missing. Weird...

watch my recored game from 17 minutes 58seconds and 18 min and 8 seconds. Still dont get it how the tactical nuke fired.

Krow rush in big teams game is unpleasant. I haven't seen it beaten when a team goes all in (this was a good effort but still fell short).

How can it be countered? I don't accept scouting as you have to 1) scout, 2) organise team, 3) build counter when initial metal resources are depleted.

Counter? 10-15 gnats and its dead. 10 gnats= 900 metal or so, you just let it drop its bombs and then go in for the stun, and its dead.

Maybe. Or maybe your enemy brought some interceptors and you lose all your gnats. Do you have a replay of this counter working vs a Krow rush?

I do like the idea of some gnats... it might work well if you pounce with a small pack when the Krow is hurt and just thinking about retreating to repair. I just don't think it would work well as a primary counter.

@[TROLL]skillerman I agree, Vamp spam is one of the few things I've seen be somewhat effective.

gnats are made of paper. use your krow intelligent and dont do suicide missions. normally i return with krow for maintenance when it has still at least 66% hp.
gnat response is useless.

and as always: dont go alone. and dont go in the dark. get intel what to face and avoid it if not urgent. save moneys/build army in background which has comlementary firepower/weaknesses than krow and keep them busy with krow till critical mass is assembled to kick them into the well while screaming "this is spartaaaaaaaaaaaa".

If you scout it, you can rush a chainsaw (or two), make some mobile AA (ambush with gremlins, some archangels), or you could go for a heavy raider push (scorchers kill coms) rush skutlle+transport and drop a skuttle on the fac when the krow is 90% done.

DErankAdminmojjj so how do you //counter// a Krow then? I agree that Gnats won't help unless the Krow is used quite foolishly.

i always try to skuttle it. difficult to guess the perfect height in the jump ;) if the enemy has fun with krow, i want to have fun too.

---

well, for other players than skuttle addicted fools like me:
1) you need firepower or time to kill 17500 hp.
2) first step is to create nofly zone. krow laughs at chainsaw, if you just make one. either the chainsaw can be engaged and killed if its not supported, or you just spend less time in the chainsaw-covered area. krow user can get impaler to clear up static def like this anyway. i dont think the one-chainsaw option is a good decision. i prefer clustering the lands with massive razors and advance slowly towards enemy position when going this path.
3) archangles have nice range and damage and are mobile, 3-4 scare krow better than razor forrest. unfortunately they are also a bit slower than krow. jump ability is useful though to escape krow. this needs MOBILE (and fast enough to keep up with krow/escape) ground support to keep archangels alive. alternatively, get massive jethros to get same result. vadals are hillariously useless. forget them. now. do it.
4) in the end you really need the element of surprise (cloak your AA), massive static/mobile ground to air area denial or a very incompetent or very risky krow player to counter it. @forever is an excellet krow-abuser. you have to bait him to take a risk to kill his krow ;)

anyway, you are forced to react and not to control the gamepla which is bad. get intel early to discover krow while building.

remember. krow is already nerfed. back in the day, @jasper was abusing krow in 9001% of his game.

I'm pleased that Krow seems to still be useful.

To be clear, I think Krow is completely OP for larger team games where it can be rushed within minutes (2 minutes in this game and it didn't even have the full team backing it). It would be sad if we had to start cooperating on Swifts in order to get recon out ASAP so that Krow can be spotted and then cooperate on the counter. Currently Zero-K relies on the Krow rush strategy being sufficiently boring that it is relatively rarely used.

Yes it can be countered, but it relies on considerable team coordination to do so. If such coordination is possible, the Krow team can also coordinate to neutralize any counter.

I'd like to see it made harder to deploy so quickly; the ways this could be done are fairly obvious.

A single player can get a Swift very quickly.
+0 / -0
You need more than one Swift to rapidly and thoroughly scout and have time to organise the counter.

One issue is that in large team games the intel from deep scouting is often not very helpful. You usually find they have a hodgepodge of factories including an air player. What can I do with that information that just donated the metal from a couple of Swifts to the enemy (and told them that we have an air player for free).
