A few weeks ago there was some discussion among admins that the current CoC is inadequate (sparked by this thread). I said I would try to update it but the result was barely different from how it is now. What additions would people like to the CoC? Input from the player base at large would be helpful.

It even misses point 4!

The Code of Conduct deals with every single situation I have ever seen come up more than adequately. Anyone who thinks a topic (such as spec cheating or abusing !kick) is not covered by the CoC has not read it properly.

quote:
6. Cheating
Cheating includes using any method that would give you information that is usually obscured by the fog of war... ...Also be careful what you say when you are spectating, do not give away intel.

5. Intentionally griefing games
Never attempt to intentionally grief the game for your teammates... ...If you do not wish to play a certain game or with certain players, leave the game.

Then there is #4 of course.

The only thing that could be clarified is abusing !vote as a form of griefing.

I'd like to see a list of actions considered trolling

I'd like to see a list of actions not considered trolling.

Such a list would just be abused. Trolls would be intentionally abrasive and claim that they were technically doing something on the list.

I think we need a certain amount of ambiguity because otherwise the trolls would abuse the clearly set out rules as GoogleFrog said.

The opposite to narrowness is not ambiguity but breadth.

You cannot possibly cover everything a player would do to ruin games. So, 'Don't ruin games'.

There's too much walls of colored text in the first linked thread for me to want to read it all... so I don't understand, what exactly are the shortcomings of our current COC? Trolling? Considering the very small number of actually malicious trolls in the community I don't see how this is an issue. No COC will completely remove trolls from any kind of game, period.

Hi Anteep. Do you have anything to do in your life that isn't trolling a small open source game community?

The problem may be enforcement, but take the average 10v10 game. The atmosphere in the game will be horrible and nubs will be constantly raged at for playing badly. I find this atmosphere of rage very off putting and it is one of the main reasons I don't play larger team games.

EDIT: Upon reading the CoC again I think it is actually a problem with enforcement and the lack of reports.

I guess we could try to make reporting easier (add to right click menu for a player in lobby?) and make a way to remove abillity to report for those who abuse it, to prevent misuse.
