Where did the music for ZK come from and who owns them?

I'm taking MIDI production classes and I'm thinking I might submit a few songs to be considered for new ZK songs. Maybe mix in a few melodies from the existing ones.

just use the site...

see at http://zero-k.info/Wiki/Credits at section "other credits" and you will find this:

Denny Schneidemesser - music (site) - his music is awesome and released under some CC licence (ver 2?)

Awesome! I'm sure everyone would love to hear what you can come up with. There's no assurances the devs will decide to include it, of course, but I think it's great to encourage anyone with a creative urge to contribute.

I don't think you can do that. Denny Schneidemesser licenses his music with a CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 license, which includes the "no derivative works" restriction. See this page for details of Denny's CC licensing.

Well thanks for the heads up with the derivitive restriction.

I'll keep working on it and polishing it. I'll submit it when I think it's ready, and avoid music by com-MIDI... xD

There seem to be a lot of problems with making zk music. Something about the sample rate being wrong IIRC. A while back I was trying to export something from LMMS (a great program for anything to do with MIDI) but whatever settings I used it would not work.
