Total War games

Anybody else here playing those? I'm actually new to the series, decided to pick some of them up during the Steam Summer Sale. Currently I'm playing the Rome grand campaign as the Julii and Medieval II Kingdoms Teutonic campaign as the Teutonic Order. Originally wanted to go for the Danes but still settled for Teutonic Order due to liking their units and starting position more. I'm kind of baffled why I haven't stumbled upon the franchise earlier.

I did get Napoleon and Shogun 2 FotS too, but I'm probably not gonna play them before I finish either Rome's grand campaign or the M2TW Kingdoms Teutonic campaign. I just prefer the settings of these two older games to the more technologically advanced settings of Napoleon and S2TW FotS.

Btw, does anybody have any experience playing these games in multiplayer? I've heard M2TW has some serious mulitplayer lag issues and that the older RTW is actually better for multiplayer. Any truth behind this?

Awesome. RTR seems really good. I'm gonna look more into this tomorrow. I'm happy with anything that makes cav spam less effective, the added historical accuracy is just a bonus. I wonder if there's anything of that sort for Medieval II also?

RTR is Roma Surrectum's only major competitor. Some consider it the best, others consider Roma Surrectum the best. RTR also recently released a new major version.

EDIT: Forget it. That was back in the day. Roma Surrectum II looks way better now. I'm gonna install it today ;-).

I've only ever played multiplayer on Shogun, I was doing pretty well but stopped when I had to defend a castle from someone who had upgraded their archers with enough range and ammo to slaughter my entire army without retaliation (ashigaru were the only units available to me from the beginning; I had been beating others with only peasant mobs)

Pretty much everything else I was gonna say has already been said by other people. Rome Total Realism mod is absolutely fantastic, and Roma Surrectum II is as well for the original Rome. You might want to start out with RTR and move on to RSII as the latter is just a tad more complex ;) they are both worth playing. The third age is also top notch, my dad got Medieval II just for the mod when I showed him.

But yeah you can install mods after your initial playthrough, and it'll take quite a while to work your way through all of the games XD. I also prefer the setting of the Rome game to any of the others, and often play it still.
