You could have beaten that cheese easily if you started putting all your resources on counter-cheese rather than continuing to eco (building mexes and constructors and moving your commander away from your base).

A stardust in the right place completely shuts down that cheese for only slightly more than the cost of those two mexes.
Or two Scalpels, that would have worked too.
