https://github.com/ZeroK-RTS/Zero-K/issues/2039I'd appreciate if this was either left as it was or be eaily configurable via ~human~ interface When u play as much zk as I do this feels almost like identity theft seeing some lobster using my neat teal color...

"Studies have shown that green is best" Best for what? To annoy existing playerbase which has been used to teal for years? (I can certainly get used to green, it's just that such changes that look completely random and just to seemingly annoy existing playerbase keep happening.)

Teal will cost 200 Kudos.

Read OP as "can i have my teal black". Thought woah, someone figured how to look cool ingame. Disappoint.

There was a widget once that made eceryone who used it see players as the same colour. Why not use it instead of this we have now? Just keep to the scheme of cold coloured team (greenish, blueish) vs hot coloured team (reddish, yellowish). Viola, eceryone sees the same player as the same colour, no more "who the heck yellow plater is" confusion. Eventually interfere your current colour into HUD, or create a huge "YOU ARE [insert colour]" sign in the middle of screen at the beginning of a match for nubs.

Failer: that is the widget we have now, the only exception being that players see themselves with a unique colour. Also, I'm surprised no one has yet brought up that green vs red is a nightmare for colour-blind people. That's why my casts still use teal instead of green (via editing ZKTeamColors.lua). I would use orange instead of red, since that's AFAICT easier for both colour-blind people and the h.264 codec, but I figured that would be a little too unusual.

Many games use blue for allies, it's not that uncommon.

Hah, I never thought about color choices in terms of encoding representations. On the other hand though, if h264 uses more bits for it, it generally means that it's easier for humans to tell apart the things going on on screen.

No, you still always see allies as cold and enemies as hot. In his version there's still hot vs cold team but you could be on the hot team. That version suffers from lack of self recognition though.

For reference, h.264 is terrible at handling highly saturated reds (as well as highly saturated blues), and tends to just blur them into a big mono-colour blob. As for Failer's widget, how often are people talking to their opponents about player positions, especially by colour?

Currently they dont, cuz it would have as much sense, as asking a colour blind if it is green or red light now. Still ive heard it quite a few times: "look firepluk is making krow!" And then search for Firepluk in 40 players list to see his colour. Also consistent colours could have other uses, E.g. being shown on the replay page.

Oh yes, making players identifiable via colors would be AWESOME. I totally want that back from early CA/ZK days.

While we are at it, can we make the colors for each team better, so it is more apparent who is on who's team?

If you can produce more distinguishable color sets, by all means do. As far as I'm aware, quite a lot of work/trials went into what we're at right now. Keep in mind you need something that's also feasible for higher player counts...

To be frank that abundance of green kind of makes me uneasy. It really makes me want to play ZK less.

In my experience messing with the team colours, it's fairly easy to get a set of 8 colours for cold, and a bit trickier but doable for warm (magenta does need to be counted as warm for this). After that, the easily distinguished hues are out, and the only differentiator I found was lightness.

This color steal is outraging! I wish devs focused on bug fixes instead... whole github is stacked with bugs and yet they change colors :(
