Explosions deform the terrain or not?

In many places on the Web I read a game description (ex. http://springfiles.com/spring/games/zero-k-16 ), and important feature is Realistic Physics and "explosions deform the terrain".
I don't see in-game terrain deformation from explosions. It presents in the game or disabled?

Each map and terrain has its own hardness. Many popular maps like the titan maps, comet maps or sc remakes are not very easy to deform. But try setting off an explosion in the sand of sandcastles and you'll see that impacts very much affect terrain.

also terrain deformations may not be visible if you're using an unsupported graphics card (such as intel/amd embedded cards). In that case it falls back to software rendering and you can hardly see any terrain detail at all.

Icy shell is quite soft


You can see how hard some terrain is by holding space. Most maps are within the range of 100 to 200 hardness which makes the terrain changes significant after a few minutes of fighting in the area. Some maps are less than 100 so their pathability and cover will change with few shots. Some maps, like Comet Catcher, Red Comet and most metal texture maps have high hardness so are barely affected. Some maps, like Sandcastles, use varied terrain hardness depending on the look/intention of the terrain.

I think those numbers are wrong. Black star is ~200 hardness, and icy shell is like 170 or so. Most maps are in the range of 250-400, although there are also some that use more than one terrain type (ie sand castles) so the hardness is not uniform.

also, use F1-view to display height by a coloured mapping on the ground.
