I think its important for people to know if a map or mod is downloading, ive met too new players who are confused why they cant play, because they cant see a progess bar, just a red cross that says no, id give up too

Already known. I think I remember some chatter in #zkdev in which CZrankAdminLicho suggested there were plans for something. No idea why the old download bar had to be removed before the new solution was available though.

i assume it was a shortcut for the new UI which was unneeded.

There are some posts by develobster in forum & github about "plan is to stop relying on spring downloads completly" and "with steam there isnt any download of mod.." etc. So I guess it is all part of the big steamdream.

I very much doubt that. Even steam wont dl every single map.

An aggressive develobster told me that things had changed. It doesn't seem to be in this thread that I'll find why he says that and he didn't seem interested in explaining it.

Is there a place where up to date steamdream plans are available? Or an updated list of responsibilities?

I fear more random searches will lead to tragic discoveries, such as https://github.com/ZeroK-RTS/Zero-K-Infrastructure/wiki/Server-Outage-Journal . I don't need reinforcement.
