Glad you saw something new. I was concerned about the game being too dull for that. There's many ways to use formations that way. You can easily create a 1:3:1 ratio, a 2:3:2 ratio, or increase the ratio in multiple places, eg 2:1:2, 3:1:3 or more complex things such as 1:3:1:3:2, etc. I feel like spreading out units across allied fronts to increase diversity is not done enough in team games. Maybe it's worth creating a collection of useful custom formations (eg \ and V over --) and dedicating a wiki page to an in-depth formation guide.
