•The hegemony members that were actively hunting humanity were the minority; the majority either felt it was a pointless waste with diminishing returns or felt that it was safe enough to go fully solipsistic within their personal virtual worlds. Many of these noncombatants remained unnoticed as humanity focused against the obvious targets.

•Humanity owes its revival to sympathetic AI who considered humanity's extinction an unnacceptable loss of toposophic diversity, or AI that felt their warmongering comrades would attack the rest of the Hegemony just as soon as the last of their human victims were extinguished.
