New map! Now you can march your armies across a real desert in style:

It's designed for big teams although as small as 3v3 would probably work. The map is wind friendly moreso than for solars, but surprisingly in spite of the rough terrain it's veh pathable (where it behaves more like a maze). As you can see from the texture, everything you see on this map is entirely terrain based, including the metal spot appearance.

I intended the rough terrain and spread out metal spots to favor raiding and ambush tactics over porc, but we'll see I guess. :P

How did you generate the heightmap? Looks like (anisotropic) perlin noise with (symmetric) contours drawn on top, plus a bit of blur... It's definitely awesome!

@Faelthas : I'd like to see how that turns out. :P

PLrankAdminSprung : sand worms not included!

GBrankTheEloIsALie : I traced over a photo of real sand dunes using gimp's calligraphy tool for the ridges, then duplicated and blurred that repeatedly to create the contours. The slight folds in some of the contours are from a bar-shaped smudge brush in krita, blurred to smooth it out afterwards. The microdunes are just a generic sand dune heightmap texture that I turned into a brush in krita and ran over it in swirly patterns on a seperate layer (set to add at 1% opacity). There's actually another, larger/smoother 'dunes' height shape under the main dunes, that give them their vertical variations.

DErankChesti : sweet!

It's veh-pathable, but is it functional for vehicles?

PLrankOrfelius yeah the preview makes it look like it's terrible. I'm not sure why some maps seem to show terrain in their preview while mine don't.

CArankPxtl no clue. Veh do have the advantage that they stay within radar blind spots, but they would require extra care at the very least. Veh are challenge facs on this map for sure.
