1.7 has a new metal layout, new water textures, raaar's metal system, redistributed black crystals, geovent textures, and more.

The engine bug causing loadscreen squishing when bumpwater textures are customized have now been fixed. This is just a taste of what can be done with water now:

The map looks nice, the water behavior too.

There's a BUT, though.

Map has "void" in the name, why not use void water and "bottomless" cliffs on the edges?

I also dislike that half of the map area exists mostly to lower peoples' fps. If the goal was to allow air do go around the edges, it could have been achieved if the map were 14x14 or so.

The name came from the usage of voidfog AKA black dualfog, which has since been broken by newer releases of spring. I used the opportunity to try some more crazy styles of water instead.

Check out the older versions of Aetherian to understand why the heightmap is the way it is. The large area outside of main play zone made a lot more sense when it held tall volcanic black spires, I wanted lots of room for big big mountains. When I discovered these steep spires caused a huge performance drop rather then redesigning the whole exterior I decided to try a lazy fix, just zoom blur the shit out of it in GIMP. It worked functionally, giving the map a normal framerate for its size, and I was happy enough with how it looked to leave it.
