So me and some friends have been trying to start up a custom game but autohost doesent seem to boot up like it should. Is there an update going on or maintenance or something like that?

Apparently there was a server update yesterday which probably broke some of our infrastructure. We have very little communication with the server people and the updates are completely invisible. So there is no testing or awareness that anything in ZK breaks due to their actions.

No CoC violations here. Rule 7 does not say don't swear.

Can you explain more about the infrastructure? Specifically how the server(s) are hosted and who operates them, and their relation to ZK. I'm a professional "server person" (operations engineer) and do a lot of infrastructure automation. In my world, if somebody sneezes near the server I get an email and then a phone call if it happens again within 10 minutes. I'd be happy to help if you guys need some.

Nice link, thanks.

This is essentially the problem I'm offering to solve. In fact, you probably don't even need my help for the basics. Something like New Relic monitoring and a status page to prevent "Is X down?" threads would be a big step in the right direction. It can be done for $0 and about 10 minutes worth of finger sweat.

That would be unbelievably helpful for them and the users

The problem that uberserver people do whatever they want is pretty hard to solve without their cooperation.

To prevent the "is autohost down" threads people could simply think for a bit since if they aren't available despite the lobby working they're obviously down at the moment for whatever reason and work is being done to fix that.

Edit: On the other hand, maybe I'm just more used to dealing with this and others need an explicit explanation (see above), so I guess it might be somewhat useful after all.

Certainly true, but you can at least set things up to wave a flag when they've done something that breaks ZK.

And how much success have you had getting people to simply think? Seems like it would be easier to give players an obvious and authoritative source for that info than it is to change their mental habits.

"Things break randomly and frequently without anybody knowing" is a well-solved problem in late 2014. However, "there's nothing we can do about it and it isn't worth trying" is also a valid solution depending on your priorities.

Soft deletion is possible (just edit and remove everything).
Hard deletion for everyone would be bad (ability to remove abuse evidence, hard to keep track of discussion when posts are missing, etc.).

Admins can hard delete (terrorize EErankAdminAnarchid with your grammar to baleet your post).

The past 2 weeks I still have mayor autohost starting trouble.
The over 250 games before worked fine ;-)
yesterday (and the days b4) 23-10-2014 "waiting for autohost to start" for hours and hours in in the morning. Then in the evening some games hosting started after waiting 5-10 minutes, but a few failed to finish due to loss of ping. It's no fun.
I love playing this game. But now I'm wondering to actually start vacuuming the floor and doing the dishes ;-)

The servers are experiencing issues lately so thats the reason that autohosts didnt work at the time. But that was the least of the issue since whole server was crashing at some point thus unabling us to play ZK.
