New people or people who haven't been here since forever have no idea what elo is. They may try better if they knew they had something to lose.

Lastly is this a community game? or what? should this not be decided by the people who play the game? are we playing a fascist run game?

Maybe then the game should be written by that same "community"? "Community" should fix bugs, and such. Then the "community" can actually decide things.

Good way to start a thread: at least, imaginative.

ZK is as fascist as it gets. Deal with it!

Down with the dictator! We want dev elections! Every 6 years!

But it's not bad or good to lose elo, noobs want XP for unlocks. I suggest that unlocks are based on elo instead of on xp, low elo nabs like @princerapier shouldn't be allowed to use trollcoms etc. And if high elo players mess around with trollcoms too much (and thus lose a lot), their elo will lower and they can no longer use trollcoms.
Btw:

I'm pretty sure ROrankForever have an idea what elo is.
(P.S.: this is a honk)

Your thread title is not exactly what you ask in the message. Each player could see his own ELO, without being publicly available.

The ELO thing has been discussed in quite a few threads. I favour public elo too, but I think devs disagree.

Not sure about starting a thread "can devs please change this? btw I hate u devs!" Of course its true devs are all evil 1v1ers, but its best not to mention it :P

1v1 elo should definitely be visible because that is its only point. If you want to progress in 1v1 it is nice to see your elo. But I have no control over infrastructure.

What do you mean by "that is its only point"?

ZK Web infrastructure is a democracy. One man, one vote. CZrankAdminLicho is the man, he gets the vote.

Elo to the player would be excellent. I have mixed feelings on elo being totally public and 'in your face' every game. Even though elo is public, if you know where to look.

Accumulation of points brings pain when points are lost. Creates rage.

When elo was public, veterans would chastise noobs for having a low elo score. Creates rage.

I see a lot less rage now vs a year ago. Even though it is implied that losses cause loss of elo by those who know.

I haven't seen a single low elo noob say: "I just play for fun, elo means nothing to me." Because they are terrible and further demoralized by having a low score, I feel noobs used to throw games purposely.

Elo is ZK IQ - nobody likes to be told they have a low IQ.

Tbf elo can already be seen in the chilli deluxe widget so I cant imagine hiding elo stops good players from calling noobs noobs.

Also now veterans can chastise noobs for such things as 'spams fusions connected to eachother' and 'makes windgens connected to eachother' and such. Showing elo will not magically make people more or less recognisable as having no idea what they are doing.

Case in point: I have pretty decent elo but I still cannot use napalm bombers

@Saab: For me it is a good thing that you can not see easily the ELO of other players BEFORE you start a game. I still remember people raging and specing before the game if they thought the team was "too bad". In my experience, this type of "predictions" are many times wrong (I also been in games that seem very unbalanced and the team still won), and would take away the fun of some games.

Still, the above scenario would not be impacted by everybody seeing his own ELO (I mean easily, without the widget thingie).

But, as GoogleFrog says, at least 1v1 ELO should be visible.

That's not your fault. Phoenixes suck.

This topic can get hairy. It tends to get people hot in the crotch. They go nuts over it. Scrotum.

Ask yourselves here. Did removing elo stop people from raging at noobs?

Yes? No?

people lose people will rage. there is no way to fix that. Sorry unless you turn people into robots without emotion or seperate the nubs from the elite, there will be casulities of war.
