You have proably noticed XP and levels displayed in the system and you wonder what is it for.
It's part of upcoming system where you will be able to gradually choose new weapons, upgrades for commanders or visual specialities as you gain ingame experience by playing.
For some preliminary description, you can check for example

or

Don't panic if your XP is reset, system is still in development testing :)

i think it dont adds to game itself, its frustrating not having all options as a newbie ... in thend beeing overun or outgunned with uber units without having the choice to do the same ... it just adds some borring xp grinding time to unlock anything, nothing i would miss in a fullborn rts ... waisted time.

Fundamental of game balancing is that there are no "uber" units. Unit is as good as it costs (roughly).

While that is true, Licho, it remains frustrating to have to grind for options, and it is often quite annoying as a player with few unlocks to try to fight heavily augmented commanders.

Well they were meant for new players, if you play the game first time, you need time to learn it anyway. Unlocks were meant to gradually introduce you to game.
And to prevent newbies rushing overpriced stuff and screwing allies.
As a veteran you know how to use stuff but unfortunatelly you are at equal footing with newbies now..

On the other hand, this does provide an incentive for many people not to smurf, and for the people who can run multiple productive accounts, a way to extend the achievement system by starting over. That is a benefit.

You can also build a Stinger farm and waste mass even if the Stinger behind can not fire :D
You can waste mass if you dig for oil to hide your com from sonar planes ...
You can suck your allies metal by upgrading your Com early and build 1000 nano turrets ...
There are so many ways to play it in the wrong way.
I think the unlocks should be unlocked by awards that you can win with battles against different AIs who are vulnerable by your currently newest unlocks.
