pressing tab to go into "whole map view" kills icons in any form of regular view. Maybe this is luaui related?

There's a widget called "Icon Height" designed to allow all icons to show or be hidden regardless of camera distance, but it does it by messing with icon distance once you get past a certain distance threshold. It's a pretty new thing, and can be turned off in the F11 menu under GUI, or have settings modified under Settings->Graphics->Unit Visibility->Icon Height (last 2 options).

Icon Height should already be off by default.
Also, ran88dom99, the problem you reported doesn't sound like it would be caused by Icon Height. But definitely check in the F11 menu and see if it's enabled, and if so disable it and see if that helps.

disabling and enabling "icon height" widget fixes nothing but setting->->->icon height was set to 1 and moving it fixed the problem.

Oh, right, sorry. I forgot to mention that disabling the Icon Height widget just prevents it from happening again, as the Icon Height widget messes with icon distance settings.
