Is it normal for goliaths to get stuck in 'potholes' created by big weapons fire? I had two get stuck in this way in one of my recent games so I was wondering if it is a common concern with that unit.

It all depends on the map. Each map can have different ground hardness.
Some maps have ground so soft that even a small explosion makes hole big enough for Gollath to get stuck (and tanks really like getting stuck).

Pathing is seriously messed up right now, we need to look into QTFPS, sadly the promise of classic pathfinding is a red herring as it's totally unsupported and doesn't work with a heap of stuff (they made units bounce around like billiard balls as a method of pathfinding which means changing how impulse works which means disabling it with classic pathfinding).
