Would it be scandalous to suggest that planes/gunship could do with a ground based unit to help push air into the 1v1/2v2 scene?

MrTumnus 4 years ago (edited 4 years ago) Just a thought, what kind of unit would it be too? maybe a plane/gunship that can land and turn into a ground guardian/caretaker. maybe some units could have defensive forms when landed so that the commander is rewarded for taking the time to put the unit(s) in landing form. I feel like it is very risky to go any air in 1v1 and it is pretty much frowned upon in 2v2, every fac should be viable in every game mode so surely some early access to ground presence could be debatable? +1 / -0

GoogleFrog 4 years ago I am unconvinced that planes or gunships are nonviable as the second factory in 1v1, or as a starting factory in 2v2. Are you trying to claim that, or are you specifically requesting that planes/gunship be ploppable in 1v1? +0 / -0
Aquanim 4 years ago (edited 4 years ago) Gunship seems quite ploppable as a starting factory in 1v1 according to https://zkstats.antihype.space/# - they were most popular on Leyline and Hourglass which have since been removed from the 1v1 matchmaker pool, but gunships weren't exactly doing healthy things in terms of the meta on those maps either. My impression has been that in sufficiently high-level matches on most maps, not having an air player in even a 3v3 game is often very problematic for your team. +2 / -0
Manored 4 years ago A gunship that can transform into a kbot and back would be cool from a conceptual standpoint. But if anything, gunships and planes might actually work better in 1v1 than in teams, at least as a second fac. They tend to work better in low unit densities because there is less flex-AA/dedicated AA around to insta-gib them. +0 / -0
Kingstad 4 years ago I do plop gs as first fac in 1v1 at times, one just has to switch back to a ground fac pretty quickly to have a chance. any sort of air unit that could switch to a land, boat, or submarine mode would have a lot of cool and fun factor though so I'd like to see something like that +1 / -0
