How about some indicator to know when planes lose their target?

Other than them continuing towards the targeted enemy units and simply not attacking? Either a clear indicator that a plane has lost its target or them turning back when that happens would be IMMENSELY helpful.

Sadly, it is not just planes.

Likho has really bad turn radius if this happens and can end up flying straight into enemy base.

I now have to leave them all inside friendly lines a good distance and individually micro them to properly bomb, mainly flying perpendicular to the target instead of straight at them.

That's because the attack command effectively turns into a movement command I believe. ZK is the first game where I have planes literally giving themselves commands without my own input, magically turning an attack command into a movement command. I'm sure engine restrictions play a part here, but I still can't find it acceptable.

Pretty sure giving an Attack command to any mobile unit in any RTS game causes the unit to try to move towards the target.

ZK implements the SetTarget command which is an explicit "shoot this if possible but don't bother moving towards it". I'm not sure if it works with bombers.

I don't think you're getting my point. An attack order is "go and kill X", movement order is "go to point A". Now if you give a plane an attack order and it loses its target for whatever reason, the plane automatically changes that 'kill X' order into 'go to point A' - order, forgoing the 'attack' - part entirely.

If a plane loses its target, the attack order should be simply cancelled, not turned into a movement order to the same place that the attack order was given at. Or the lock on should stick through fog; one of these is how any RTS game handles such situations. Except ZK.

Even if a 'cancel attack order when a unit loses its target' isn't possible/too demanding with the engine limitations, it should at least be possible to somehow notify the player that 'unit has lost target and switched to a movement command to the same place'.

I have considered disabling my own attack move button.
