I have noticed that the Zero-K fails to properly auto balance when allocating players to teams...

Experience and ranks should be as evenly distributed as possible.

In the example above MrGreen8 should have been placed on team 2.

That looks like a 3v5. I am not sure what is going on in this instance.
Oh right, crude player list interacts poorly with comshare.

It is still a 3v4. Disparate player numbers in small games notoriously leads to poor balance outcomes. Players' icons are also not always clearly representative of their custom-game ranking.

Nah, it is 3v4. terve886 shared unit control with Shaman.

I think the system should have place MrGreen8 on team 2. This would have made it fairly balanced. I have see multiple instances of high ranking players group onto one team, while the other team consisted of low ranked players. This is just one example.

SErankMudhishCode's red ranking appears to be quite misleading due to not having played recently - his actual rating is somewhere above 2000, which would make him at least light blue.

According to !predict Team 2 has the higher average rating. Given that it is a 3v4 all actual predictive power goes out the window though.

It started out as 3v5 before he did that though?

It was 3 vs 4 from the start to end.

Lobster pot balance can get a bit crazy.
Had a recent game where the other team had 3 star ranked players while we had the two most inexperienced.
In practice, players who just play lobster pot are going to have a much lower casual rating than players who play small teams, speed metal and FFA.
A player with 1000 lobster pot games is going to be much much stronger in a lobster pot than even a much higher ELO player who got his ELO from another game type...

In a small populated game like this, balance is always not balanced.
Simply because of the following factors
  • Some players have their elo carried up, the system doesn't know if you did anything proper in game, the system only cares about win or lose
  • Some players intentionally troll and tank their elo down, that doesn't means they can't play well. If they do decide to play properly, they outperform what their elo indicate.
  • Friends or Clan aka pre-made team like combinations. This signify higher level of team play between these people which there might be someone more experienced telling them what to do which then outperform what the elo indicate.
