Apparently widget settings are not saved for some people with Linux but nobody has reported this. So I just heard of this, does anyone have any information?

Haven't noticed anything strange with my widgets. Although, playing ZK almost exclusively on Linux, I have little to compare it to. Do you mean unit states, widget positions, or what?

Widget settings are always saved for me, as long as the game is exited properly (no crash or alt-f4).

There are different settings for single/multi-player.
and for different singleplayer zk-versions.
multiplayer seems to be stored in a single config file - independent of the version.
Maybe that is because I upgrade over rapid and don't create a new sdz.
