Unjustified BAN

Dear Admins,

It seems that a member of my clan Gods, @Nigonogger has been banned with the following justification: "SMURF".

I have played most of the games with @Nigonogger and I cannot recall ANY game where he had a behavior toxic to any of the players during the games.

Therefore, I will make it quick and simply ask two questions:

1: How is it fair to BAN a player until 2029 (what the hell?) for literally doing nothing wrong except playing fairly the game?

2: Is being a "SMURF" even a justification to ban a player for 20 years?

Also, the ridiculous 20 years ban apart, could you provide any evidence that @Nigonogger was an actual SMURF?

Thank you.

PS: If being a smurf deserves a 20 years ban, I do know a bunch of "veteran" players that could be banned for the same reason and more.

If it's a smurf, then they're not really banned. They are restricted to playing on their real account. So outrage about ban length is irrelevant.

You might have a case for them not being a smurf. I know nothing about it.

I've taken a bit of a look and can't find any good evidence. The moderators who were a awake at the time are no longer around for me to talk to. Unbanning for now, we will see what they say.

*scratches head* I seem to remember somebody complaining about his name. Maybe that was a factor? On the other hand, I have played with him and he seemed like a decent bloke.

Their name is definitely an issue that still needs to be discussed. it is related to smurf detection just because various types of trolling are correlated. I recommend choosing unambiguously fine names to avoid false positives. I'm still not sure of their status though.

This guy started right from advanced strategies, you name it
- cheap, smart ramps to path heavy tanks from bad terrain
- sea on land map, terraforming channels and he does it with certain skill
- smart use of units

It all indicates he is a veteran player, playing on newb account i.e. smurf
So here is the real question. Is he banned on his main? :P

Smurf detection says GBrankJohn5 is the main account, use that one. If that is not the case then figure out another name for the account because "Nigonogger" is not acceptable.

I see he uses the same name on steam though, so that could be the reason for the new account, to have the same name as on steam. Some rename of the original account could be agreed upon instead.

Just some explanations for those who dont know it:

A smurf, is a person who already has an account, but created a secend one.
This can be done for reasons like easier matchups, nobody knows who someone is, ...

But smurfs are against the rule of 1 account for each player. So each 2nd account will get banned if detected.

The moderators and admins can check the IP of every account. Since it is very unlikely that two persons use the same IP-adress, whenever they find two accounts using the same adress, the newer account gets banned.

Since this is the case, i don't see the problem for him to get and stay banned.

How about you inform the players instead? It's common some players might have both Steam and non-Steam account and may be unfamiliar or uninterested in linking them (because hey, some people want to keep Steam stuff separate).
Seems unnecessary to ban people for smurfing when using WHR.

JPrankgajop we don't bring the banhammer out every time some newbie registers a new account because they forgot the password from 2 months ago. The smurfs that get whacked are usually the ones that are disruptive and receive reports from other players. If it doesn't look malicious we talk to people beforehand, and something like what you describe may possibly be allowed.

Thanks. I think that's a smart stance and it's good you've outlined it publicly.

Smurfs a scum, ban them all, and their original account...

Bring them to the smurf court, and hammer down harsh penalties.

Good to see unban, I recently discovered a thread from like 6 years ago where Det banned me and my entire university IP for absolutely no reason and then repeatedly lied to justify it so I remember the dark ages where moderators were like corrupt policemen doing whatever the hell they feel like.

I'm glad current moderators arent such tools.

Agreed, credit where its due, they did the right thing. I have been enjoying the game and will be leaving a positive review on Steam.
