I think this would be against design philosophy.
Commanders are very difficult to kill until late game. Such a commander would either be a noob-trap if it isn't efficient, or hurt the pacing of the game if it is. Engineer commander is already the most prevalent, and while the build range and BP aren't a large economic boost, they do give an indirect metal advantage by completing metal producing structures faster, particularly at the very start of the game.
What problems would such a change fix? How would it improve the game?
