HI all,
Wondering if anybody can help me make an efficiency decision. (I tried to look around on my own but couldn't find it)
I have been doing testing but I can't seem to find a real answer in my testing.

I want to build a wall of earth to protect a building, how tall should that wall be?

Next I want to build a spire to put a defense structure on it.

How tall should the spire be for a Gauss?
Stinger?
Stardust?
Faraday?
Newton?

Thanks!

For the wall, it depends on the building and what fire want you to defend against.
Usually 50 height is enough against raiders and most assaults. Except spiders, of course.

For the turrets, ballistic weapons gain range with height. So the taller, the better I think.
For the rest, if you want to put them out of raider's range, 125 should be enough.

I think much of the answers are in the game pictures of what other have amazingly done ( or just a really creative artist hard at work )

this one here from google search of Zero-K game / then went to the images tab :

shows the tower about three tanks high

Maybe just test it out.

0Ai & 10 Minutes on a speedmap should give you all answers

But in general : higher = bether, but costs more

Stardust will gain increased range from height. Stinger and other laser turrets will not.
About +50-100 elmos is reasonable for most turrets.
Newton can be an exception to this, placed on a high enough spire it will be able to pick up and dangle units, keeping them trapped.

With walls around structures, it all depends on what your up against. If it's early game short walls are enough to keep out Scythes. If you have a Big Bertha firing at you better get those walls as high as you can afford.

Stardust has trouble aiming downwards so its turret height depends a lot on its intended purpose. Weirdly, if you make a Stardust tall enough it cannot shoot anything. Stinger, Lotus and Faraday have spherical weapons so effectively lose range as you put them higher, but they become better against aircraft. My persistent build height settings have Lotus at 120.

Could someone give a cost estimate for the different terraform heights for common turrets? Are the costs different on every map due to hardness?

Cost does not depend on hardness. If you are building on flat terrain then cost will be entirely determined by height and footprint.
