Because they decided not to rush things and make the new player experience better. At the same time though they have their daily jobs, families and other things to attend to so it took a lot of time. Not to mention that they also didn't really know how to do it at first (which is a reason why it wasn't done in the first place) so it took a lot of figuring out and research too.

To the develobs the possibility that a legit steam player would still care about their game is less likely than a fake account. quote:

That does not answer anything. Licho always wants to release "soon" and does it too, with known consequences. Googlefrog always wants to release when "ready" but with his estimates is wrong by years.

back when I voted for no steam, steam was rather bad. now steam's pretty fixed up (aside from the usual bugs...) it would be neat to have the game there
