PleaseHelp has been using cheats and playing 1vs1 for a while. No one seems to care. Should you be allowed to use cheats and gain elo? I think cheats should be turned off in ranked games PleaseHelp has been doing this for a while. Hes up to 1875 elo. His game list is just a list of cheated games :(.

Allowing cheats in ranked games sounds a whole bunch counterintuitive. I mean, i thought only autohosted, official games counted for Elo purposes, not? Otherwise, cheating or not, you can always set up some absurd settings and abuse them instead of the cheats. P.S., even autohosted games with significantly altered options should not count, in my opinion (seeing as there is !setoptions).

... Or just disabled altogether for most games that are not specifically Ladder. Because it's exactly one-elo-for-all, including HUGE TEAMS games and such cheated games as Pleasehelp does, that makes elo such a desirable e-pen for people who create the likes of 'elomaker2': http://zero-k.info/Users/Detail/220423

Cheats are the worst I have seen him drop a nuke at 1 min. For now take this as a warning dont play with PleaseHelp.

>dont play with PleaseHelp. Oh, playing him on any host he doesn't control is a quick way to inflate your own elo against his. Farm the farmers, heh.

They always were, I don't know whats going on that cheats don't instantly disable elo..? Elo is important though, it's required to balance games, otherwise we go back to ingame time, which is way easier to smurf and MUCH less reliable. We -could- theoretically hide it, but I think it's important to show to establish the skill level of the people in a game or who you are talking to. I use it all the time from 'I'm speccing, elo is too low', determining who can take care of themselves in a team game, and figuring out who is important to listen to in balance discussions. Anyway I'm going to punish PleaseHelp, obvious troll.

Lol, I looked at PleaseHelp's page and note he got a Penalty for using cheats for xp/elo. Does that mean that 'giving away' elo is going to get a ban too? I could just play endless FFAs since I never win them... =( Coz if it isn't, I'm totally doing that when PW starts. Play games I know I can't win, I mean.

Never thought that some known folks like yurit (at least who I know that he exists) would use "bots" or whatever just to make elo. Well this will lead to imbalance and well he with his team gonna lose more often. In zero-k there is such thing as elo inflation from dead/troll accounts. In the end everybody who play gains more and more elo. And by the way why there is two godde's? And it looks that he even uses(why for what) that account since it has login 2 days ago, but never saw him with this nick.

yurit is playing vs elomaker2 and getting free elo lamn. His game list is just one long list of this. I think both of these guys should have thier XP delete. It is a more fitting punishment

Idk if gaming the system this way should be punishable. The problem is trolling other players to do it.

i dont understand what this elo thing is about. its just for multiplayer matchmaking. these ppl are cheating only balancing in these games, nothing more. and its not to their own advantage but to the other team's. this is a paradoxon. this is so ZOMG.

Same clan as PleaseHelp, surprise surprise. I don't get what Yurit is trying to achieve, he isn't going to get any respect for it. jseah: Playing games you know you cant win (say, 1v1'ing me) is fine. Doing stupid strategies in 1v1 or FFA is fine. Trying something slightly unorthodox even, in team games, is fine as long as you don't troll your team with bad play. Tanking your elo over and over again against smurfs or by self-d'ing every game is not- it's easy to tell the difference.

This also points to a UI failure, since players evidently don't realize what they're getting into when they do battle with PleaseHelp with cheats enabled. Then again, there will always be exploits. PleaseHelp could just as well make a map where the metal patches on one side have 10X the output as the far side and it would be difficult for players to visibly see this. I guess you could have a similar warning for non-official maps. But then where do you draw the line? I'm sure some vicious tricks could be developed involving modoptions too. that said, why would you want to farm ELO? It prettymuch just means you'll get pantsed the first time you step into a teamgame. Smurfing your ELO seems the greater risk. Farming XP seems more sensible, but I'm not sure if you even want to bother blocking that. I mean, it's not like TF2 where you can trade your farming products (and TF2 makes farming even easier - all you have to do is idle in singleplayer).

Simple they want to get into the top 10. PleaseHelp almost made it and Yurit already has.

The admins should disqualify known elo-abusers from showing up in the rankings. That would remove the incentive to abuse what is otherwise a very valuable mechanism. The abusers are probably few enough in number that it shouldn't be too difficult an ongoing problem for the admins to manage. If nothing else, there's one easy way to identify abusers: if you complain about being disqualified from the rankings, then you probably should be disqualified from the rankings.

Just hide elo so there is nothing to fight for ;)

Wolas: overall Elo inflation of ongoing players from beating dropouts and trolls is not a problem, since the important part of Elo is the difference between two players or teams, not the absolute value of any one player or team. Also, as long as new players are all assigned the same Elo (1250) and are expected to have about the same skill (none at all), then that will serve as an anchor for everyone else's Elo ratings. We just need a constant influx of new players to keep the anchor stable.

Doesn't ELO take into account the rank of your opponent? I have trouble believing these guys are taking down high-rank enemies... or is the culture of teamgames making it hard for even our best players to obtain high ELOs?
